WEARING A RING: SYMBOLIC MEANINGS
Rings are surely important items among all jewelry. No matters if you wear them for religious or other beliefs, you must know the meaning of wearing rings.
The round shape, typical of the rings, is all along considered as symbol of protection used to fortify cities, temples, tombs in order to prevent enemies and daemons from entering. In magic practices the circle is generally tracked around a person to protect her.
Individually speaking the round shape crystallizes in rings, considered as an amulet or a talisman that, in the ancient times, was used in order to protect fingers, believed the most sensible and vulnerable points of the body, because of their sensibility in receiving and delivering magical fluids.
Nowadays rings are mostly considered as a fashion statement or a status symbol, but if you want to wear consciously a ring, maybe there are few things you have to know, starting from the meaning of the hand wearing ring.
In fact, if you believe in this kind of things, it is not the same wearing a ring on the left or on the right hand. The left is considered as the heart’s hand, so the one of the sentiments, of the intuition, of the art and of the all emotional sphere. It is the hand of the unknown, of the occult and of the emotionalism.
The right is the one of the action, of the rationality and of the logic.
So if you wear a ring on the left you communicate that you are a sensible person. Wearing it on the right means you are a rational individual. If you wear rings on both hands you show self-confidence and reliance in other people.
Even each finger wearing a ring has a different meaning. We have to point out that, traditionally, there is a finger, the ring finder, considered as the ideal for wearing ring. It is the fourth starting the count from the thumb. But why this finger and not, for example, the index finger, is considered as the most appropriate in wearing rings? There are different theories about, but the most ancient and fascinating believes that a vital blood vessel ran from the ring finger on the left hand directly to the heart. This vein was named “vena amori” which means “the vein of love”. And on this finger we wear the wedding or the engagement ring. Later the medical science demonstrated that this ancient belief didn’t have scientific foundation, but the practice of referring to that particular finger as the ring finger continued till nowadays.
Previously we said that wearing a ring has different meaning for each finger, so let’s have a look on these meanings.
Wearing a ring on the index finger means you are a person who loves to be protagonist of her and, often, of the other life too. It is the finger of the power and of the success. You love to be the one who indicates the way, the right way, and imposes his will.
Wearing a ring on the ring finger means you are an idealist and a dreamer, a person who loves daydream, searching for harmony and peacefulness. It is a message of love of a person who likes giving and taking love.
Wearing a ring on the middle finger means you are a well-balanced person, as well as the middle finger lays in a balanced position as regards the other fingers.
Wearing a ring on the little finger (aka pinky or pinkie) means you are a brilliant, dynamic and spirited person.
Finally, if you wear a ring on the thumb you want to communicate you are an individual who has self-confidence and believes to be able to overcome everything.
Wearing rings on all the fingers, even if you seem more fashionable, you’re communicating absolutely nothing, and maybe you want to do that. Wearing no rings could mean two things.
The first one: you see yourself as a baby, because you’re not able to make a decision and affirm your personality.
The second one is more malicious: you don’t want to expose yourself in order to observe the situations and make the most convenient decisions. A sort of opportunism, useful to mask weaknesses and inclinations.
